You can pop them into a pillow slip , so if they do fall apart at least you have all the stuffing in the one place and not blocking up the machine , as I found out once before
You put them into a pillowcase and pin the end of the case shut with a safety pin. Then you wash and dry them and they come out nice and clean and fluffy
