Laundry: color clothing, how can you tell if is safe to wash with other color?

I have 10 t-shirts in different colors, I don't know if the color will come off or not (when washing in the machine). I don't have time to hand wash them.





Is there any ways I can tell if their colors will come off or not?

Assuming these are brand new never washed t-shirts here is what I would do. First sort them into two piles Dark and Light. The Dark pile woud be all blacks, reds, dark greens, dark blues and dark browns. The Light pile would be all whites, yellows, light blues, light greens, and tans. Then I would wash the loads seperately, both in cold water. Then I would cross my fingers and hope for the best.Laundry: color clothing, how can you tell if is safe to wash with other color?
As long as their not red or maroon, you should be okay
If your 10 t-shirts have been washed before don't worry about the dye coming off. If they were going to run they already have. Wash in cold water and if some colour comes off it might not effect the other colours. Dry in a low heat and they won't shrink I have being doing this for years.
Most laundry tags ( found in the neck of the shirt ) will tell you to wash with like colors. For example, navy and black are like colors.After a few washings, all the excess color that a shirt will release will be gone. Always, always wash your colored shirts in cold water.
If you are washing them for the first time, you can't be sure if any will run or not. Usually its the darker colors that may run, sometimes they don't tho. You could run one shirt under the faucet and squeeze it and see if any color comes out. That should give you a good idea if its safe to wash with other colors.
you will have to put some water on them to see if they will bleed if they do wash sep with salt in the water it stop them bleeding
Don't wash red clothing with clothes that are colored but have white trim.
wash in cold water and on gentle cycle
put each t-shirt into warm water in the sing. if the water gets colored then it will color other things in the machine.
T shirts are almost always color safe. However when I have something that is RED i wash it alone the first time just to make sure it is color safe.

put each shirt in the bathroom sink with warm water, if the color will bleed you can see it flow into the water. Most light colors wont bleed, some darks or very bright colors might, and dont trust any dyes from india without checking. their lovely colors often are not colorfast.
